Dear Yoga Student:

Since 1991, the Knoxville Yoga Center’s mission has been to teach people about yoga, a 5,000-year-old eight-limbed philosophical system designed to improve physical, mental and spiritual well-being. This is now our seventeenth year and yoga is more popular than ever.

We don’t allow level 1 beginners to just drop-in to the middle of a series because we start with foundational principles and progressively teach from there. So don’t forget we offer a  free class where you can try before you buy, which is held the first Saturday of every month at noon. Next month it will be June 7th.

peace, felix

KYC, a fully-equipped 2,000 sq. ft. studio, teaches Iyengar style hatha yoga, which is famous for precision & alignment. Iyengar yoga is progressive so it is taught in series and at different levels. Students new to the Iyengar method must begin at level 1. This is the foundational level that teaches the what, why and how of basic poses. These fundamentals are essential as these principles of alignment and muscle action are linked and naturally follow through to the more advanced poses. You can expect detailed instruction and individualized correction as needed. Props will be used to modify poses for safety and to maintain and teach structural integrity.

The fitness yoga is a combination of sun salutations and asanas (poses) linked with the breath making it a vinyasa, which means flow. It’s very vigorous and experience with basic standing poses and sun salutations is recommended before you attend this class.

The restorative/meditation class is a quieter practice to promote deep relaxation. It is more about being than doing. Although most of the poses are supported students need to already have yoga experience. This is not a class for new beginners.

Policies:
1. Classes are on-going. Except for the beginners series (level 1), Iyengar students can join  at anytime although pre-registration is advisable.
2. Drop-ins are allowed with appropriate Iyengar experience at levels 2 & 3.
No drop-ins allowed for the beginners series ( level 1).
3. Classes missed can be made-up at other same level classes within the current series.
4. Series are non-extendable, non-refundable and non-transferable.

New to yoga?

 1. Wear comfortable workout clothing that allows you to move and stretch freely with knees preferred bare.

 2. Avoid excessive jewelry and any perfumes/cologne.

 3. Recommended not to eat a large meal 2-3 hours before class.
